WIAW: Morning Hunger

I’m linking up with Jenn again this week for another What I Ate Wednesday!

Does anyone else stay hungry all morning? I just realized how hungry I am in the morning as I looked back at this picture. We had a department meeting yesterday morning, so I ate a little more than I normally do, but even on a normal day, I seem to be packing away a good bit of food in the morning.  I’m not stressing about it because of my increased workouts and strength training, but holy cow!

Here is how my day broke down:

Morning: Egg and turkey bacon with a side of grapefruit for breakfast. I knew there was going to be fresh fruit at our morning meeting (which started a full three hours after breakfast), so my plan was to stick with fruit only to go with the half of a bar I’ve been throwing into my mornings lately.  Today’s bar was half of a Clif Oatmeal Raisin Walnut bar.  I did well until someone reminded me that one of our coworkers had brought his wife’s homemade pumpkin scones.  That woman can cook, so I had to grab one! It was so delicious that I almost ate the whole thing before I got a picture of it.  About an hour after that (but still with a good while to go before lunch), I was hungry again, so I went for my yogurt and banana.

Midday: Leftovers for lunch!  Nathan grilled tuna that he had rubbed with a combination of parsley, lemon, and garlic the night before, so I had a leftover piece of that on top of a veggie ragout I had made with red onion, zucchini, yellow squash, red bell pepper, shitake mushrooms, and tomatoes.  My snack was a peach with some almonds and string cheese.

Evening: This was one of those nights I was really glad we had thought to grill some chicken ahead of time! When I got home, the soccer match was still on, so we ended up watching the end of that complete with extended play before we headed out to do our runs. Nathan went slightly shorter, so by the time I got home, he jumped in the shower and put together grilled chicken salads with spinach, strawberries, cucumbers, and avocado while I got cleaned up.  We followed that up with 3 squares each of Chocolove’s Almonds & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate bar. It’s our favorite!

What time of day tends to be your hungriest?

I have been waking up starving lately too! I guess my body is just wanting that extra food it needs 🙂
