Weekly Wrap-Up: When it Rains

Rain. That’s the big story in North Carolina this week. Florence has been one slow-moving, rain-soaking beast of a storm. I’m pretty far inland and on high ground, so I’m lucky. And, as of 8 PM on Sunday night we still have power. The worst of the storm is supposed to come through between midnight and morning, so I’ll be reassessing everything in the morning.
The coast and the major river basin areas in North Carolina haven’t been so lucky. Parts of Kinston (Vivian Howard’s home) is largely underwater and some coastal towns are completely wrecked. The devastation is real.
So, my little weekly wrap-up seems pretty trivial, but here it is…
Monday – 3 mile run
Tuesday – 10 minutes cardio, 25 minutes strength supersets
Wednesday – 3 mile run
Thursday – Work up sore and sick feeling, so I decided to rest.
Friday – 2.5 mile run, 1.1 mile walk
Saturday – rest
Sunday – rest
So, I had really big plans that because I turned Thursday into a rest day, I was going to find a yoga workout for Saturday and a longer low-impact workout for Sunday on YouTube. But, while I was going a little stir crazy from being confined to the house more than normal, my body was enjoying the extra rest, so I went with it. We leave for Australia in a week and a half, and I don’t want to run myself down to the point that I don’t feel well by the time we get there.
Plus, this weekend it was just really nice to spend some time connecting with my little family and enjoying each other’s company. My husband and I even managed a mini-date to play some Yahtzee and drink some whisky while our toddler napped on Sunday afternoon.
The really good news about my workouts is that my pace for my weekday runs has gotten to a place where I’m starting to feel like a “real” runner again. I know, I know, if I’m running, I’m a runner, but some days my running pace is the same as my husband’s walking pace, so it is feeling pretty good to be hitting a sub-12 minute mile on a more consistent basis. In addition, I’ve stretched my intervals out, so I’m now doing 9:1 intervals on Mondays and Wednesdays and running a solid 30 minutes on Fridays. My long run intervals are still shorter and my pace is much slower, but I’m pushing a stroller that weighs over 20 pounds that is carrying a toddler who is right at 30 pounds, so I’m giving myself some grace on that one until the weather starts cooling down. Then, I’ll start worrying about running longer intervals on those runs.
As for the weigh in, I’m still sitting at a 15 pound total weight loss since June 25. I had really hoped to get to 20 pounds before we leave for Australia, but again, I”m putting my health first. Work is going to be busy and there are a lot of trip details to take care of, so I’m not going to let 5 pounds weigh too heavily on my mind or starve myself to lose that 5 pounds in the next week and a half. I’ll just keep watching my nutrition and eating as healthfully as possible and see what happens.
So, that’s my short but sweet weekly wrap-up, Hurricane Florence edition. Be sure to check out more weekly summaries with Wendy and Hoho‘s Weekly Wrap!
Hope this morning brought you continue power and safety. Congrats on the improving paces
It did! I even managed to get out for a few miles although it was pretty thick out there. I decided to wait until the sun was up so I could see what was ahead of me a little better than the dark and Knuckle Lights allows for…
That storm is crazy! They say it’s not going anywhere. How does that happen?
Have a great trip to Australia! And thanks for linking.
The sun actually came out midway through my run today and was around on and off through the afternoon! Now if we could just shake this tropical humidity…
I hope your powered remained on and your home remained safe! Gosh, I haven’t played Yatzhee since I was a kid. That’s sounds like a fun date! It’s great to hear your running is coming along. Running while pushing a stroller is tough (I would imagine). You’re going to be flying on solo runs! Thanks for linking!
