Let’s just say I already knew I had fallen off the wagon when it came to my personal physical fitness. My nutrition hasn’t been what it should have been, nor has my exercise. And, I really love those things. But, sometimes the rest of life gets the front seat and when I stepped on the scale this morning, all of that came crashing down on me. I knew I had gained some weight; I know my clothes don’t fit the way they should; I know my energy level is down. But, stepping on the scale this morning gave me that real quantifiable data. The time to take care of this, is now.
True confession, I actually started last week. I purchased a month of Crossfit on Living Social and started with my first Foundations class last Thursday. Whoa. I knew it was going to be tough and it totally lived up to my expectations. I think going there twice a week is going to be just what I need to kick my butt a little while I am getting back into the swing of running as well (which will resume this week.)
I have been battling plantar facsiitis for a while now and finally got in to see the doctor on Christmas Eve. He gave me some new insoles (no orthotics needed!) and arch straps to wear when I run or wear really flat shoes. He also gave me some stretches and exercises to help. So, I’ve been working on that. He has me working on low mileage until I go back next month, so I’m limited to 15 miles a week. That shouldn’t be a problem considering I’ve been dealing with the flu and it’s leftover cough since the week before Christmas…
So, it’s been one thing after another, but it is time for all of that to end. When I feel myself falling off the fitness wagon, there is one place I have been able to go to over the years that really helps me get on track. SparkPeople is a totally free website that allows you to track nutrition and exercise and set fitness/nutrition goals for yourself. I don’t use it all the time, but typically, I turn to it for a few weeks a few times each year to help set myself up for success. The website includes recipes (even lets you put in your own recipes to find nutrition information), articles, short videos, and workouts. It has been a huge help every time I’ve used it!
If you are looking for something to help you keep track of your successes, it is definitely worth checking out. You can sign up using this link and once you have an account, be sure to find me (katiekee76) and send me a SparkFriend request.
Hi Katie,
I feel ya. My diet got WAY off base over the holidays and my clothes aren’t fitting the way I want. I just signed up yesterday with a site called stickK. (http://www.stickk.com/) I’m now on the line for paying $20/week to a cause I LOATHE if I miss my weigh-in goal of losing one pound a week for the next 7 weeks. I so do not want to give to the cause I signed up for, so I’m super-motivated to stay on track. Just something for you to check out if you think it might help.
