Weekly Recap: Recovery Week

The week after a big race is when I tend to slack off a little and this week was no exception. I’m kicking off the start of a series of two week training cycles starting today. So, for the last week, I ate a little more, exercised a little less, and generally just enjoyed life.
Monday: 2 mile shakeout run with the crew
Tuesday: Sleep
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 2.5 mile-ish walk with Gertrude and a friend who I haven’t seen in quite some time
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 6 mile easy run/walk
Sunday: Eat
Saturday afternoon, I got together with some of my girlfriends. We had pedicures and then moved on to the O’Henry Hotel for high tea (with prosecco). They have a couple of different options for tea snacks, but we all decided to order the one that gave us the most options. We all ordered different varieties of tea; I had Ginger Oolong, while my companions went for Earl Grey, English Breakfast, and Chai. We nibbled, sipped our beverages, chatted and laughed for good couple of hours before we went our separate ways. It was a great time!
We spent most of Sunday with Nathan’s family. We had lunch at Radius Pizzeria in Hillsborough. The food was good and they offer a decent beer selection. Unfortunately, our service was pretty dreadful. I don’t know it was our server or if they just aren’t equipped to handle large parties, but it kind of messed with our experience there. Then, we moved on to dessert at Maple View Farm. When we arrived, the parking lot was full, cars were parked all along the sides of the road, and the line was out the door, but it was well worth the wait to have our ice cream. We were fortunate enough to snag some of the rocking chairs on the front porch as we ate our ice cream.
After making the drive back to Greensboro, we relaxed for a bit and then got to making dinner. Earth Fare had a filet/lobster tail combo on sale for $9 (with a coupon) this weekend, so we had picked up a couple of those on Saturday. Nathan grilled the filets while I prepped and baked/broiled the lobster tails. I topped them with a drizzle of olive oil, salt, pepper, and some fresh squeezed lemon juice. In the last couple of minutes, I put a small bit of butter on the meat and turned the oven to broil. They came out wonderfully. We added a simple salad of spinach, fresh strawberries, and bleu cheese to our plates, and dinner was done! We enjoyed a bottle of pinot noir while we ate. I told Nathan that it has been a long time since I’ve had such a decadent, yet simple meal.
All in all, it was a good week, followed up by an even better weekend!
