Where Has My Motivation Gone?

Since I took so much time away from running and getting in good exercise in general between September and October, I’m really struggling to find my motivation again. I am trying to run 3 times a week to get my legs back under me and to make sure that I can at least finish the half-marathon I’m registered for in less than a month.
This past week, I did a good run on Tuesday, but totally missed Thursday because I had a post-work meeting and by the time that was over, I was starving. So, I ended up going straight to dinner. Over the weekend, my long run was only 7 miles, and I really struggled to finish it. Let’s just say that the last two miles involved a lot more walking than normal. So, not a great week in running for me.
After thinking about how to get my mojo back, I think I’m going to focus this week on putting together a training plan that will get me through mid-February. I’m much more focused when I have a plan, and I like designing my own. That way, I’m able to make adjustments and plan ahead for travel weekends, races I want to run, and other special events.
I’ve also been struggling a good deal with my respiratory system again. I’m not having so many of the asthma-like symptoms that I was having before my septoplasty and turbinate reduction last year, but I stay congested all the time. I finished my last round of the highest dose of Augmentin almost 2 weeks ago, but I feel like it barely touched this sinus infection. The pressure in my sinuses is down a bit, but every couple of days, it hits. I have an appointment with my ENT next week, so I’m hoping that after I see him I’ll have some answers. Right now, it kind of sucks.
The last thing I’m really struggling with is my sleep. Just when I was finished really recovering from the jet lag, Daylight Savings Time came to an end. I was struggling to fall asleep and I was waking up repeatedly during the night, unable to go back to sleep. I had some melatonin that I had bought to help with the jet lag, so I have been taking that for the last week. Unfortunately, that has meant I am sleeping so well that I’m not able to wake up bright-eyed and bushy tailed each morning. Now that my internal clock is set to appropriate times, I’m going to try letting that go. Hopefully, my energy will start to surge as I continue to add in exercise.
I’m really looking forward to getting myself back on track. I wouldn’t trade any of the last few months for anything, but they have really wreaked havoc on me.
It’s time to start kicking it into high gear!
