My draft of this blog post has been sitting around since Sunday evening. My plan was to finalize everything on Monday morning before I got ready for work, but a mean stomach flu had other plans for me. So, here it is, now Thursday morning, and I’m just now getting to the computer to make those final changes and get it posted. Oh well, such is life sometimes, right?
I can’t possibly have any complaints about the last week. I started with a holiday on Monday, and ended with getting off early on Friday because of impending ice. And, I managed to get (almost) all of my workouts in!
As I mentioned, Monday was a day off because of the holiday. I started by sleeping in (by a significant amount), grabbed some Blood Orange Chobani and a banana for breakfast, and spent the next few hours doing some cleaning around the house while Nathan worked. When he got home, we were planning to go to the gym, but it was so nice out, we decided to throw our dog on her leash and head out for a good walk. We did about 4 miles and then I did a quick core workout that I found a while back on Pinterest followed by some push-ups and planks. We had planned to cook dinner together, but we were meeting with a couple we are good friends with to work on a project. Melanie’s husband had made chili, so we ended up noshing on that while we worked and definitely didn’t need any other food by the time we got home.
Most of my work week consisted of sitting in training sessions. It was a great training, and I actually planned out well enough to bring my lunch each day, so I kept my eating pretty on track. I will admit that by Wednesday afternoon, I was pretty tired. So, I may have hit the vending machine for some Cheez-Its. They are my always my junk food downfall. Tuesday evening, I did a 6 x 800 at the track. Even though I had to run solo, I really ended up enjoying it and feeling like I had done the workout justice. On Wednesday night, I hit a Cycle Extreme class taught by my favorite spin teacher there. Cycle Extreme is a combination of 10 minute-ish spin sessions followed by 5-10 minutes of floor work including dumbbells and core work. I am kind of falling in love with the class. We decided to go to a clarinet recital of one of Nathan’s colleagues on Thursday evening, so I got up early on Thursday morning and ran almost 5 before work. My legs were super tired from my Wednesday night workout, but I managed to run an 8:1 run/walk intervals the whole time. Needless to say, I was ready for my rest day on Friday!
As it turns out, the ice started around noon on Friday and with temperatures staying below freezing overnight, I ended up scrapping my Saturday long run. The extra rest day obviously did me some good, because I went out for my 12 miles on Sunday morning and had one of the best long runs I have had in months or maybe even a couple of years. I managed to keep up with 6:1 run/walk intervals the entire route! It felt great to be out there and feel like I could continue to do what I wanted to do! Sunday night I was achy and extremely tired, but it was all worth it to feel so fulfilled by my run.
Here is what my week’s eating looked like:
Monday Lunch-Leftover Pork Tenderloin and Mustard Sauce
Monday Dinner-Nick’s Awesome Chili
Tuesday Lunch-Tomato Zucchini Soup and leftover Quinoa with Zucchini
Tuesday Dinner-Leftover Tempeh Broccolini Stir Fry
Wednesday Lunch-Sweet Potato and Lentil Chili
Wednesday Dinner-Meatloaf Muffins (I just kind of made this up, so a recipe will be coming soon)
Thursday Lunch-Tomato Zucchini Soup and leftover Quinoa with Zucchini
Thursday Dinner-Holy Shitake Pie from Mellow Mushroom
Friday Lunch-Wayfarer from Crafted
Friday Dinner-Cantonese Shrimp and Napa Cabbage
I should also mention that we had a great evening on Saturday. We spent some time with some good friends, raced plasma cars, drank great beer, and played Cards Against Humanity.
We capped off the weekend with Tacos al Pastor (a la Nathan) and an early bedtime. Here’s to another great week ahead!
