Kicking Butt

This was definitely a week for kicking butt. After I had mine kicked the week before, I was more than ready to get things back to normal!
I was super excited as lunch time approached on Monday because I realized that I was heading out of the office to a training that would end earlier than my normal work time. The training was just outside Greensboro and located close to some of my favorite trails, but after the abysmal run I had Sunday, I decided running might not be the best plan. Instead, I sent a quick message to a friend and we decided to meet up for a Body Pump class that our other friend, Cindy, was teaching that afternoon. The class was tough after a week of very little working out, but I felt great when it was over! Our menu planning kind of fell by the wayside for the week, so I ran by the grocery store to pick up some stuff to make us a gnocchi dish I had found online that I wanted to try. It was quite tasty and made so much that I was able to eat leftovers throughout the week for lunch. I think next time I make it, I will probably eliminate the cheese and grate some fresh lemon zest over it instead.
Tuesday, I had planned to do speed work. But, since it was a gorgeous night and most of our usual running crew had other plans, Nathan and I decided to do a run a little closer to home and hit one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for dollar tacos. This was an even better than usual run because Nathan decided to stick with me the whole time. I don’t usually get company on my runs, so this was a real treat for me. He helped me to push my pace and I finished a 5-miler for 5 by the 5th at a pace much faster than I’ve been able to run in some time.
By Wednesday, I was kind of wiped out. I had intended to do 30 minutes on the spin bike at the gym after work, but I had a long and pretty stressful day, so I decided home was calling my name. I stopped by the grocery store and picked up a few ingredients to put together a wicked shrimp pad thai for dinner. I ended up looking at recipes from here, here, and here and combining them to some degree to make the dish. We loved it, but decided that next time, adding just one tablespoon of peanut butter might add a great deal to the recipe.
I made up for missing a workout on Thursday by hitting Cindy’s lunch hour Body Pump class and doing speed work on the treadmill after work. I had planned to hit the track, but it was cold, dark, and raining and I just didn’t feel like dealing with that, especially considering how much time I’ve been sick this winter. Nathan joined me and even though we did different workouts, it was nice to do another run together.
Friday was a much needed rest day that ended up being capped off by pizza and beer at one of our favorite local joints, Sticks and Stones. They had a special with Brussels sprouts, pancetta, and mashed potatoes that I kind of fell in love with.
The weekend was, as all are, busy. We ran with The Woo Hoo Crew on Saturday morning, ate breakfast with them, did some shopping, hit the movies to finally see Django Unchained (great flick!), and splurged on Five Guys for dinner. Nathan had an early flight on Sunday morning, so that meant an early bedtime. While he traveled on Sunday, I ran a marathon relay with a few members of our running group, babysat for some friends, and tried to get some weekend work done so I could be ready to get my week off on the right foot.
The whirlwind around here never seems to stop! I’m looking forward to a week of easy workouts while I rest up to run the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon next weekend!
