This past week was a crazy, but truly wonderful, one!
Nathan had gone out of town last Sunday, so my Monday schedule was all my own. In addition, with a half-marathon coming up on the weekend, I had planned to lay off my workout schedule a bit. I had a workshop to teach in the afternoon, but was thrilled to have a chance to see my old principal for dinner. We had a great time catching up and it gave me an opportunity to get some career advice from her about something I’ve been struggling with for the last few weeks. I walked away from dinner feeling great!
Nathan came home on Tuesday, but by the time I got home from work, we only had about 15 minutes together before I was off to meet some of the girls from the group for an easy 3 mile run and Ladies’ Night at our local running shop. We had a phenomenal run! I started with the group, as I always do, and originally just planned to run some long intervals. But, as we started, I realized I haven’t done any of my “fitness test” runs in a while, so I decided to just stick with them for as long as I could. By the time we reached 21 minutes, they wouldn’t let me stop and let me dictate the pace. We returned to the shop just hundredths of a mile away from 5K distance. This was a HUGE milestone for me, as I haven’t run a 5K without stopping to walk in well over a year. Once we cooled down and stretched a bit, we took part in a little shopping and chatted with some of our other best runner girls while we sipped a martini. It was a super fun night, but I was glad to get home to Nathan! I had put on some veggie chili before I left for the run, so Nathan dished that up for us while I showered and then we had a good chance for him to fill me in on his trip.
Wednesday and Thursday were a whirlwind. I was super busy at work and grateful that I didn’t also have to find time to fit in workouts. By the time I finally got out of the office on Thursday night, I was ready for my weekend away.
Myrtle was a great trip! You don’t often find a group of 10 women that can spend 3 days together drama-free, but this definitely was such an occasion. We ate great food, danced our booties off, drank way too much, and laughed a lot. I’ll be writing a full race recap later this week, but suffice it to say, that I was really happy with how I ran. There will be some other recaps coming as well, so as those are posted, I’ll link them up at the bottom of this post.
This week is another 4-day for me. Nathan is taking me away for my birthday, but hasn’t clued me in on our destination yet. I can’t wait to find out where we are going!
