Weekly Wrap-Up: Money in My Pocket
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Well, if I thought I was off-track last week, this week fell off the rails! Seriously, I hit a lot of challenges this week, in terms of both fitness and diet, but it was a really good week otherwise, so I’ll take it! I’m still down from my starting point overall with slight gains the last two weeks.
I had trainings and meetings all day Monday-Wednesday this past week, but I managed to get in my standard early morning workouts every day. Sitting all day was difficult and I was feeling the effects of not getting enough sleep last weekend, so I may have succumbed to a junk food snack a couple of times.
In addition, after my Tuesday strength workout, I started feeling a little tweak in my quad. I was able to still do my Wednesday and Thursday workouts, but decided not to run on Friday because it was still bothering me and I knew we were going to be walking a lot that day as we hit the zoo.
I finally ran again Sunday morning because we were staying right on a greenway that runs along the Northern Branch of Potomac River in Cumberland, Maryland. I kept it to three miles so as not to put too much strain on that quad. It didn’t bother me at all whileI was running, but it felt tighter than usual during my post-run stretch.
I also decided to finally see a sports medicine doctor about my problematic Achilles. Almost all of the issues I’ve had lately have been on my right side, so I’m hoping he can look at some of my mechanics and help me get some balance back and reduce the number of aches and pains on that side. I’ll be sure to update you on that next week.
Here is a complete summary of my week:
- Monday – 2.5 mile run
- Tuesday – 20 minutes strength and a walk to get coffee on my lunch break that I forgot to log as a workout
- Wednesday – 2.5 mile run and 1 mile walk
- Thursday – 20 minutes strength
- Friday – Zoo walk (didn’t log this in my watch, but I hit my 500 calories burned and 30 minutes of exercise before lunchtime)
- Saturday – rest
- Sunday – 3 mile run
The awesome thing about weeks like this one is that even if I don’t exercise as much as I would like, I’m still getting some small health benefits and I’m putting money in my pocket thanks to the Achievement app.
Using the Achievement app, you can earn points for any activity you complete that has health benefits. When I weigh myself and log it in My Fitness Pal, I earn points. When I use Runkeeper to track my mileage run, I earn points. When. I log my food, I earn points. And when I use the step tracker built into my Apple Watch, I earn points. And, the best part is that for every 10,000 points I earn, I also earn $10. There is no way I’m going to get rich using Achievement, but why not earn a little bit of extra cash for activities I’m doing anyway? It’s a win-win!
This coming week I’m really going to get refocused on my nutrition so I can get back on track and start the losing trend again!

Thanks for reading and keep working hard!
Is that achievement app only available for Apple watches? That is pretty cool. I have a Garmin and a Samsung phone. I will have to look into that.
I used it with my Garmin before I had my Apple Watch, so I know that works. I’m sure it works with Samsung too just because of the number of devices it is compatible with, but they have a great FAQ on their website where you can check that out!
I hope your quad is feeling better! I struggled with an Achilles problem for years (right side as well). Let me know what you find out about that. The Achievement app sounds like a great way to earn points. Every little bit adds up, especially if the points don’t have an expiration date. Thanks for linking!
My quad is much better! I visit the doctor tomorrow for my Achilles, so I’ll give an update on that next week…
