Weekly Recap: Streak Week

I made it through another week of streaking and a full running schedule! That means I’m through day 21 and I’m pretty excited about that!
It was the last week of school in my school system, so that made for a pretty busy work week. I was in trainings most of the day Monday and Tuesday. I got to sit at my desk and take care of a bunch of little things on Wednesday and then I was back out at another training on Thursday and Friday. On top of all that, I got to spend a couple of evenings this week putting together a pillow sack dress for a friend’s little girl to wear for her 2nd birthday party. My friend picked the fabric and I think it came out really well. I can’t wait to see pictures from the party!
In other news, our busy concert season is starting to get going. On Friday night, we went to see First Aid Kit at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro. They are Swedish sisters who have been on the folk circuit for a while. We really like them, so we were excited to hear they were coming so close to perform as they promote their new album, Stay Gold. The show was well up there among my favorite shows I have ever been to see. Their original stuff was great and I absolutely loved their covers of Bob Dylan’s “One More Cup of Coffee” and Simon and Garfunkel’s “America”. If you haven’t heard of them before, you should check out their latest single!
Now, on to the exercise part of my week…
After being sick for a week, I had initially decided I was going to go with what I had planned the week before in terms of exercise. However, by the time Tuesday rolled around, I was feeling pretty good and surprised myself. I’m not complaining at all! I’m still not adding in too much cross training because the 30 Day Abs Challenge is really taking it out of me.
Monday: 1 mile run and Abs Challenge
Tuesday: 4 miles (had planned to run 3) and Abs Challenge (I started splitting everything but the planks into two roughly equal sets)
Wednesday: 1 mile run and Abs Challenge
Thursday: 4 miles (had planned 3) and Abs REST DAY!
Friday: 1 mile and Abs Challenge
Saturday: 8 miles. The 8-miler on Saturday morning was tough! It was a super hilly route and I was tired from staying out late the night before for the concert. I kind of hurt all over by the time I got home, so I decided to take an extra day of rest for my abs. I briefly considered trying to fit them in between my afternoon and evening events, but I was still sapped, so I decided to just let it go and not feel guilty.
Sunday: 3 miles and Abs Challenge – Instead of going back, I skipped ahead to where I was supposed to be. This was the first time in I don’t know long that I’ve held my planks for a minute straight without dropping to my knees. However, I think that is my max for right now, so I’m going to start splitting the planks in half with my next abs workout. That will still build me to 2 one-minute planks by the end of the month and I would say that sound pretty good! As a side note, I’m happy to report that my continuous 2 mile run on Thursday wasn’t a fluke, as I did it again on Sunday. I’m super happy about that!
My summer schedule begins this week which means I have to be at work by 7 Monday through Thursday, but I will have Fridays off until mid-August. The first week of getting out the door so early is always interesting…
